Work safety and health are primary concerns of the City. The safe and healthful performance of all work assignments is the responsibility of both supervisory and nonsupervisory personnel. It is their responsibility to ensure that all equipment is used safely and all safety procedures and/or practices are observed.
The Safety and Health Program will enable each City Department Head to oversee Safety and Health activities and to:
-
Conduct a program of safety and health inspections to locate and identify any unsafe working conditions or practices, to control health hazards and to comply fully with safety and health standards of every job.
-
Train all employees in good safety and health practices.
-
Provide necessary personal protective equipment and instruction for its use and care.
-
Provide mechanical and physical safeguards to the maximum extent possible.
-
Develop and enforce safety rules; requiring that employees cooperate with these rules as a condition of employment.
-
Investigate promptly and thoroughly every accident to find out what caused the accident and to correct the problem and prevent further occurrences. All written reports are to be submitted to the Benefit Specialist
Ohio Revised Code 4167.01(B)(1) exempts police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians for coverage under Ohio Revised Code 4167.
Employees are responsible for complete, genuine cooperation with all aspects of the Safety and Health program, including compliance with all rules and regulations and for continuously practicing safety while performing their duties.
It is the responsibility of the employee to report immediately to his/her supervisor or the Department Head, any injury incurred on the job no matter how minor the injury may seem to the employee. All accidents, regardless of whether or not an injury is incurred, shall be reported immediately by the employee(s) involved to the employee’s supervisor. If it is determined that immediate treatment or examination is needed, the supervisor shall arrange transportation to the hospital or physician’s office and shall make any other necessary arrangements.
It is the responsibility of the injured employee’s supervisor to initiate and oversee the completion of an accident report within twenty-four (24) hours after the injury was incurred and submit the completed report promptly to the Benefits Specialist Office. If an employee or the employee’s supervisor is uncertain as to whether or not an injury is considered to be job related, an injury report shall be completed and submitted to the Department Head for review and determination.
