Ironton City schools
Ironton High School
Ironton Elementary/
Middle School
The Ironton City School system is an integral part of Ironton's history, as when you approach Ironton High School, you will notice how 1920s architecture and the modern era meet. The entrance of the building is a part of the original structure that was completed in 1923. The rest of the facility, however, is state-of-the-art just like Ironton Elementary School and Ironton Middle School.
These new and modern facilities are filled with the latest technologies and teaching tools to facilitate an effective learning environment. It is this effectiveness of the facilities and a superior teaching staff that Ironton High School has been recognized by the State of Ohio multiple times for excelling in academics.
In addition to superior academics, Ironton is also known for its athletics. Throughout the decades, Ironton sports teams have brought home championship titles, and many students have gone on to college with both academic and athletic scholarships.
Tanks Memorial Stadium and Bob Lutz Field
Tanks Memorial Stadium, located right behind Ironton High School, is historic. It is the stadium that was once home to the semi-pro football team, the Ironton Tanks. Semi-professional football began in Ironton in 1893 with the Ironton Tanks being founded in 1919. The team folded in 1930, but the stadium still stands and is home to the Ironton Fighting Tigers and Bob Lutz Field, named after the former Ironton Coach and record holder for the most wins by any football coach in the State of Ohio.
